i used to live in chicago. while there, i gathered the most glorious gaggle of friends steeped deep in their artistry, plopped in the heart of the city. we were poets, photographers, film makers, writers, artists, fashion designers, actors, musicians… you name it. We worked on our art in all the hours we weren’t working multiple service jobs to survive in the city.

jon, my boyfriend, worked by day as a window washer and by night at a club called rumba. His shift ended at 3am. the rest of us, ending shifts a little earlier, worked our way towards him on the best nights. hopping on the el, sometimes walking. slowing we’d trickle in as the night lingered. my shift in cosmetics ended around 11pm. i was usually the first to arrive.

it was a super exclusive club even sometimes hosting famous a-listers. but because chicago is full of us. the workers, the artists, the dreamers all squished into one person, usually someone extremely high up, had worked the very job you were coming from, and squeezed your hand and led you into the magic in solidarity.

one night, long before jon’s shift ended. the owner of rumba linked arms with me and escorted me to the bar. called over one of Jon’s friends and said, make this girl a mojito, and then send her out on the dance floor.

he asked if i’d ever had a mojito, and i said yes and where i'd tried it … and he laughed. “no, then. you haven’t had a mojito.”

damn was he right. the elixir i discovered that night was pure magic. i’ve never experienced it the same since those dreamy late nights dancing with people in such a higher class than me, drinking and laughing and dreaming of what might come to be.

this candle sends me there again. feeling like an artist in a buzzy city, deep in the night. that amazing moment when all the friends were finally off work, and we'd toast another day of life together.

and honestly, I think... maybe the truest beauty born from those days... was seeing the things we thought were funding our dreams actually become our dreams as our focus changed and we realized serving people, WAS indeed where true connection (magic) is born.

+ filled with pure soy goodness.
+ enjoy as a candle first and then as the perfect glass for your favorite bev for years to come.

soy wax has a memory. honestly. it will only remember the burn radius of it's last burn. always allow your wax pool to reach the edge of your vessel. we recommend burning your candle for at least one hour (no more than 4 hours) to give your candle a long happy journey.

it's best to keep your candle wick trimmed to a 1/4 inch before each burn. do not allow debris to inhabit your wax pool. be smart about where you burn your candle.

keep it away from flammable objects, large bags of cotton balls, and your toddler. seriously. never leave a burning candle unattended.
